CHILDCARE SUPPORT OPTIONS:

Childcare can be a significant expense, but there are several schemes available to help working families manage the cost. Below, we’ve outlined the key support options for children aged 5 and over to ensure you’re getting the most out of the available benefits when using Hackney Tuition Centre as your registered childcare provider.

1. TAX FREE CHILDCARE:

Tax-Free Childcare can help with the cost of paying for childcare. For every £8 you pay into your childcare account, the government adds £2, up to a maximum of £2,000 per year, per child (£4,000 for disabled children). To be eligible, you’ll usually need to be working and your child must be 11 or younger (16 or younger if they’re disabled). Your childcare provider must be signed up to the scheme — Hackney Tuition Centre is registered as an approved provider.

How it works:

  1. Set up an online childcare account via the government website.
  2. For every £8 you contribute, the government adds £2.
  3. Use the funds in your account to pay Hackney Tuition Centre directly.

2. UNIVERSAL CREDIT:

If you’re working and receiving Universal Credit, you can claim back up to 85% of your eligible childcare costs. Both parents must be working (unless one is unable to work due to disability or health condition). The maximum you can claim each month is:

  • £1,071.09 for one child
  • £1,836.16 for two or more children

This support is available until your child turns 16. You pay your childcare costs upfront and reclaim them as part of your Universal Credit payment.

Key points:

  • You must be in work and on Universal Credit.
  • You can claim for children up to the age of 16.
  • The reimbursement covers up to 85% of your childcare costs when using Hackney Tuition Centre.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT SCHEME:

Each of these schemes has different eligibility criteria, and in some cases you may be able to use more than one. In general:

  • If you’re working and eligible for Tax-Free Childcare, this is often the most straightforward option.
  • If you’re working and on Universal Credit, the childcare element of Universal Credit may offer greater savings depending on your childcare costs.
  • It’s worth checking which scheme works best for your situation using the government’s Childcare Calculator.

Note: Child Tax Credit and Childcare Vouchers schemes have now closed. If you were previously using either of these, you may wish to explore Tax-Free Childcare or Universal Credit childcare support instead.

To benefit from these schemes, you must use a registered childcare provider like Hackney Tuition Centre.
